People sharply criticize me for this, but as a student of German culture and history, certain rhetorical parallels between the NS regime exist, amount them the demonization if the press (Lügenpresse), the irrational scapegoating of entire ethnic groups, the repetition of outlandish lies, causing some people seeing it as actual truth (birther), and the total changing of topic when confronted with facts. This isn’t going anywhere good and it seems to have had a serious detrimental effect on the social culture.
